Libya, Tunisia Strengthen Intelligence Ties Amid Regional Security Concerns
Libya and Tunisia have moved to deepen security collaboration following high-level talks between their military and intelligence leadership, with a focus on strengthening intelligence-sharing and joint operations.
The Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Army, Salah al-Din al-Namroush, met with Tunisia’s Director-General of Defence Intelligence and Security, Habib bin Saleh Al-Dhaif, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.
According to officials, the meeting focused on improving coordination between ground forces, as well as developing joint training programmes and conducting field exercises along the Libya–Tunisia border to boost operational readiness.
Both sides underscored the importance of enhanced intelligence exchange, sharing of expertise, and stronger joint security mechanisms, noting that such collaboration is vital for regional stability and the protection of mutual interests.
The talks come shortly after Tripoli hosted the 2026 Conference of Military Intelligence Chiefs from Sahel and Mediterranean countries. The event was attended by Libya’s Prime Minister, Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah, who highlighted the urgency of strengthening regional security cooperation.
In his address, al-Dbeibah described the conference as timely given evolving global and regional security dynamics. He stressed that tackling cross-border threats requires collective action, improved intelligence coordination, and trust among national security agencies.
He also warned of the growing threat posed by extremist groups across the Sahel and wider Africa, noting that instability and conflict continue to create opportunities for such groups to expand.
Calling for a shift from dialogue to action, al-Dbeibah urged countries in the region to adopt practical measures that enhance joint security efforts.
He expressed confidence that the conference would help establish stronger frameworks for intelligence cooperation, ultimately contributing to peace and stability across the region.
