Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna has pushed back against critics over her decision to undergo cosmetic surgery months after the death of her sister.

Speaking during an Instagram livestream on Saturday, the reality TV star addressed the backlash surrounding her Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and 360 liposuction procedure, describing many of her critics as hypocritical.

Phyna had earlier shared a post-surgery video online with the caption, “Finally did it. No regrets,” which quickly drew widespread reactions.

Responding to comments suggesting her actions were insensitive following the death of her sister, Ruth Otabor, she insisted that her grieving process is private and not meant for public display.

“I don’t grieve my sister online. She will always remain in my heart,” she said, adding that people should not expect her to express her mourning publicly on social media.

She also warned critics against invoking her late sister in online debates, stressing that her loss is personal and not open for public scrutiny.

Ruth Otabor died on August 31, 2025, following complications from injuries sustained in a road accident earlier that month near Auchi Polytechnic.

Defending her family’s handling of grief, Phyna noted that life continued shortly after the burial, urging others to respect individual coping mechanisms.

She also dismissed circulating allegations, including claims that she received ₦1 billion from the Dangote Group in connection with her sister’s death, describing the reports as false and “disgusting.”

Despite the criticism, Phyna remained unapologetic about her decision, saying she plans to embrace her new look and ignore detractors. She added that online body shaming played a role in her choice to undergo the procedure.
