A former senior executive of a major Chinese state-owned defence company has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for bribery, authorities said on Tuesday.

Liu Weidong, ex-deputy general manager of China South Industries Group Corporation, was convicted by the Intermediate People’s Court of Nanyang in Henan Province.

In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of 4 million yuan (approximately $587,000) and ordered that all illicit gains be confiscated and handed over to the state.

According to the court’s findings, Liu used his various positions between 1999 and 2025 to provide assistance in areas such as business operations and personnel appointments. In return, he accepted bribes totaling more than 41.39 million yuan.

Liu, who stood trial on January 16, pleaded guilty and expressed remorse during his final statement.

The case is part of China’s broader anti-corruption drive under President Xi Jinping.
