Zelenskyy Seeks Details on Putin’s Proposed May 9 Ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he is seeking clarification on a proposed short-term ceasefire put forward by Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

The proposal, reportedly discussed during a recent call with former U.S. President Donald Trump, suggests a temporary truce around May 9, when Russia marks Victory Day.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine has directed its officials to engage with U.S. counterparts to better understand the terms of the proposal.

“We will find out exactly what is being discussed, whether it’s a few hours of security for a parade in Moscow or something more,” he said.

While Moscow has floated the idea, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that no final decision has been made, adding that the specifics would ultimately be determined by Putin.

Ukraine has instead pushed for a longer and more substantive ceasefire, as fighting continues across multiple regions.

Overnight attacks by Russian forces killed at least one person in Dnipro and injured dozens in the southern port city of Odesa, with residential buildings and infrastructure damaged.

At the same time, Ukrainian forces have continued strikes داخل Russian territory. Officials said drone attacks targeted industrial facilities in Russia’s Perm region and an oil refinery in Tuapse, causing fires and disruption.

In a separate development, a vessel accused by Ukraine of carrying grain taken from occupied مناطق departed from Israel without unloading its cargo, following diplomatic pressure. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the move as evidence of effective legal and diplomatic action.

Despite talk of a temporary truce, hostilities between Ukraine and Russia continue, underscoring the uncertainty surrounding any potential ceasefire agreement.
