2024 Social Media Awards to Hold on Nov. 23, Unveils Theme “The Spotlight”

The 2024 edition of the Social Media Awards (SMA) is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 23, at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos. The announcement was made on Thursday by Mr. Emmanuel Nwafor, CEO of Alternative Adverts Ltd. and Convener of the awards, during the official unveiling of the program in Lagos.

With the theme “The Spotlight,” this year’s awards aim to shine a light on the remarkable achievements and contributions of individuals and organizations within the social media space. Nwafor emphasized the growing importance of social media in modern communication, marketing, and culture, highlighting the need to recognize excellence in these fields.

“The 2024 Social Media Awards will be a platform for celebrating individuals and brands that have used their social media platforms to entertain, educate, and promote businesses creatively and innovatively,” Nwafor stated.

Nominations for the awards will open on September 12 and close on October 23, with submissions to be made via the official website: www.sma.ng. Voting will commence on September 23 and run until October 30. Nwafor stressed that the nomination and voting process will be entirely user-based, ensuring transparency and fairness.

“We invite all social media users to participate by nominating their favorite influencers, content creators, and brands for the various award categories. These awards will honor those who have demonstrated excellence in social media strategy, content creation, audience engagement, and community building,” he added.

In addition to the awards ceremony, Nwafor revealed a lineup of five events, including charity initiatives, sports activities, and a nomination party. New award categories have also been introduced to recognize previously overlooked contributors to the social media industry.

“We plan to visit hospitals and orphanages as part of our charity activities, and we encourage our sponsors to join us throughout the process,” he said.

Reflecting on last year’s success, Nwafor noted that the 2023 edition saw a record number of entries and a stellar lineup of winners. For 2024, “The Spotlight” theme signifies the organizer’s commitment to highlighting exceptional individuals, amplifying marginal voices, and celebrating innovative storytelling and creativity.

“As we look to the future, the SMA will continue to adapt to the ever-evolving social media landscape, promoting creativity, supporting social media literacy, and providing a platform for diverse voices and perspectives,” Nwafor concluded.
