The Directorate of APC Support Groups has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the state and national levels to ensure transparency in the ongoing Oyo North Senatorial District primaries, insisting that the final outcome must reflect the wishes of party members.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, the group expressed concern over the declaration of the primary election as inconclusive despite claims that Col. Dr. Gbenga Adegbola (Rtd.) was leading in nine out of the 13 local government areas before the collation process was halted.
The group noted that while results had already been announced for Oyo South and Oyo Central Senatorial Districts, the delay in concluding the Oyo North exercise was generating anxiety among party faithful and supporters.
Deputy Director General of the APC Support Groups in the South-West, Hon. Adewale Adeogun, warned that any attempt to tamper with the process could erode confidence in the party’s internal democratic system.
According to him, the development runs contrary to the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that direct primaries should be adopted in situations where consensus candidates could not be agreed upon.
“The leadership of President Tinubu and the National Chairman of the APC are known for their commitment to internal democracy. We trust that they have no knowledge of any attempt to alter the will of the people of Oyo North,” Adeogun stated.
He called on party leaders in Oyo State and Abuja to allow the process to proceed without interference and ensure that all votes already cast are duly counted and officially announced.
The APC Support Groups reaffirmed their confidence in the party leadership, expressing hope that the primary process in Oyo North would be concluded in a manner that reflects fairness, credibility and the true choice of party members.
