The Switzerland national football team has issued an unusual warning to players and staff ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, alerting them to the presence of snakes near their training camp in the United States.

The Swiss Football Association disclosed details of the team’s official training and accommodation site, located at the Jewish Academy in San Diego, California, where the national squad will be based during the tournament.

According to an official map of the facility released by the association, a section of the complex has been clearly marked as a “snake area,” warning players, coaches, and support staff to exercise caution when moving around the grounds.

The designated zone is intended to raise awareness of the possible presence of snakes in and around the training facility and to help prevent unwanted encounters during the team’s stay.

The warning comes as participating nations continue final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico and is expected to be the largest edition of the tournament to date.

While Switzerland’s focus remains on its on-field preparations, players and staff will also need to remain alert to the unique environmental conditions surrounding their training base.

The Swiss team is expected to be among the notable European sides competing at the tournament, with preparations intensifying ahead of their matches in North America.
