A 27-year-old South African woman has appeared in court after being accused of poisoning her two young children, leading to their deaths in Limpopo Province.

The suspect, Ntanganedzeni Siphugu, briefly appeared before the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, facing two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of her children, aged six and nine.

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mashudu Malabi, the alleged incident occurred on June 1, 2026, at Madabani Village in Limpopo.

Prosecutors allege that Siphugu administered a poisonous substance to the children, causing them to become critically ill. The children reportedly fell sick the day after the alleged poisoning.

One of the children was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival. Family members later returned home only to discover that the second child had also died.

The tragic deaths prompted a police investigation, which led to Siphugu’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.

The case was postponed until June 12, 2026, to allow the accused to formally apply for bail. She remains in custody pending the outcome of the bail proceedings.
