Panic as Trailer Falls From Nkpor Flyover in Anambra
A major tragedy was narrowly avoided on Saturday after a trailer reportedly fell from the Nkpor flyover at the New Parts Market area of Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The accident triggered panic among traders, motorists and commuters in the busy commercial district, but no fatalities were recorded.
According to eyewitness accounts, the trailer veered off the bridge and crashed onto the road below, narrowly missing pedestrians, moving vehicles and roadside traders.
The impact also damaged a parked shuttle bus. Sources at the scene said the bus owner escaped unharmed by a narrow margin.
The incident temporarily disrupted commercial and transport activities as residents and road users gathered to witness the aftermath of the crash.
Shortly after the accident, the Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area, Stanley Nkwoka, visited the scene to assess the situation and coordinate immediate response efforts.
Speaking during the visit, Nkwoka confirmed that no lives were lost and expressed gratitude that the incident did not result in casualties despite the heavy human and vehicular movement in the area.
He urged motorists, especially operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to comply with road safety regulations and maintain caution while driving to reduce the risk of similar accidents.
The council chairman also reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to strengthening emergency response measures and ensuring public safety across communities withiln the area.
