Amotekun Operative Arrested Over Accidental Fatal Shooting in Oyo
An operative of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has been arrested after allegedly shooting a man dead while attempting to arrest two individuals involved in a violent altercation in Saki, Oyo State.
The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Ayemojuba Kosigi Village, near Saki, according to police sources.
The case was reported to the Saki Police Division on Friday by the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Fulani Association in Saki, Abdullahi Dogo. He said two Fulani men, whose identities have yet to be established, were engaged in a cutlass fight when the incident happened.
Police said the Amotekun operative, identified as Abdulafeez Alabi, allegedly discharged his firearm accidentally while attempting to arrest the two men. The bullet struck one of them, who died at the scene.
The second individual was not reported to have sustained any injuries.
Following the incident, police arrested the operative and recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel gun and one expended cartridge from the scene.
The suspect remains in police custody, while the police have commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
