Nigerian troops have arrested several foreign Arab members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) during ongoing military operations in Borno State, following a failed terrorist attack.

The arrests were made as security forces intensified coordinated offensives against terrorist enclaves across the North-East, targeting insurgents attempting to regroup after suffering heavy losses.

Military sources said the suspects, believed to be foreign fighters affiliated with ISIS, were captured during clearance operations after troops repelled an attack by the terrorists in parts of Borno.

The operation also led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition and other combat equipment, while several terrorists were neutralised during the exchange of fire.

According to the military, the latest success reflects sustained pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region and highlights efforts to prevent foreign fighters from strengthening insurgent activities in Nigeria.

Security authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the offensive until terrorist networks are dismantled and lasting peace is restored to the North-East.

The military urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
