Akpabio Assures Borno Flood Victims of National Assembly’s Support
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured victims of the recent Borno floods that the National Assembly is ready to provide support and assistance. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, on Tuesday, Akpabio expressed solidarity during his visit to the flood-affected state and the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi.
Akpabio praised President Bola Tinubu for his prompt response to the deadly floods that devastated much of Maiduguri, the state capital. He reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to mobilizing resources to aid in disaster prevention, mitigation, and response efforts.
The Senate President also pledged to strengthen the proposed Special Disaster Intervention Fund, which aims to address future natural disasters. He thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NNPCL, NEMA, and the Armed Forces for their swift interventions in managing the crisis.
Akpabio also commended Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for his proactive efforts in addressing the needs of the flood victims.
