Super Eagles Maintain FIFA Rank, Stay Ahead of South Africa and Ghana

Nigeria’s men’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have retained their 39th position in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola Men’s Rankings for September 2024. The rankings, released on Thursday, September 19, show no change for Nigeria despite their recent mixed results in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, according to Soccernet.ng.

In their opening two qualifiers earlier this month, Nigeria secured four points with a commanding 3-0 win against Benin and a goalless draw with Rwanda. However, these performances did not significantly affect their global ranking.

Although Nigeria experienced a slight points drop from 1498.93 to 1498.02, the Super Eagles remain sixth in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Tunisia. South Africa and Ghana, their regional rivals, dropped further in the rankings, with South Africa now 11th in Africa and Ghana 14th following their AFCON qualifying loss to Angola.

Globally, the top ten teams saw no changes, with Argentina leading the way, followed by France, Spain, England, and Brazil. Nigeria’s next AFCON qualifying matches against Libya in October present an opportunity to improve their ranking before the next release on October 24, 2024.
