Henry Okojie Survives Assassination Attempt in Edo State
An alleged assassination attempt on Henry Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, was thwarted by security personnel.
Okojie, who is also the husband of actress Mercy Johnson, was reportedly attacked at his residence by armed men suspected to be political thugs. According to a statement from his media aide, Michael Ihaza, the attackers arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with Rivers State registration number PHC 253 FF.
The statement revealed that the armed men, disguised as police officers, invaded Okojie’s home, claiming to have an appointment. However, security personnel assigned to the lawmaker intervened, causing two of the assailants to flee the scene, leaving behind their driver and one other individual, who are now being interrogated by the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi.
The attempted assassination highlights ongoing security concerns in the region as the election season intensifies.
