80-Year-Old Grandmother’s Body Recovered After Gas Explosion Near Naples
The body of an 80-year-old grandmother was recovered from the rubble of a collapsed residential building following a gas explosion in Saviano, near Naples.
Firefighters discovered the woman’s body in the early hours of Monday, days after the deadly blast. The explosion had also claimed the lives of a 41-year-old woman and her two children, aged 4 and 6, whose bodies were recovered on Sunday.
The woman’s 40-year-old husband and their 2-year-old child were hospitalized with severe injuries. The family lived on the first floor, while the grandmother resided on the floor above.
Authorities reported that the explosion occurred around 7 a.m. (0500 GMT) on Sunday, with a gas cylinder in the grandmother’s flat suspected to be the cause. However, the exact circumstances remain under investigation. Saviano is situated about 30 kilometers from Naples’ city center.
