Nepal’s relentless rains since September 27 have led to severe floods and landslides, resulting in at least 66 deaths, including six young players from the Nepali Football Association’s academy in Makwanpur district, officials reported on September 28.

The disaster has wreaked havoc across the nation, with major roads blocked and domestic air travel severely disrupted. According to Dil Kumar Tamang, a home ministry official, 69 people remain missing, and 60 others have been injured, raising concerns that the death toll may rise further.

The hardest-hit area is the densely populated Kathmandu Valley, where flooding has brought daily life and traffic to a halt. The tragic loss of the six football academy players occurred in Indrasarowar, near the capital, as they attempted to move to a safer location during the landslide. The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) confirmed that search teams recovered the players’ bodies, while others from the academy were safely relocated.
