The death toll from twin Russian strikes on a medical center in Sumy, a northeastern city in Ukraine, has risen to ten, authorities reported. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks on Saturday, accusing Moscow of “waging war on hospitals.”
“This war demands global attention to Russia’s targets. They are attacking hospitals, civilian facilities, and people’s lives,” Zelenskyy stated.
The first strike, which occurred on Saturday, claimed one life, and a second strike hit while patients and staff were evacuating, according to Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. Local officials confirmed that Shahed drones were used in the attacks.
Sumy Acting Mayor Artem Kobzar reported that 21 other people were wounded in the assault. Sumy is located approximately 32 kilometers from Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have launched surprise incursions since August 6 to divert Russian military attention from the Ukrainian front line.
In a separate incident, three people were killed, and three others injured in a Russian airstrike on the village of Slatyne in the Kharkiv region, as confirmed by Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov. Additionally, a drone attack in the nearby village of Kozacha Lopan claimed one more life.
