‘The Weekend’, ‘Jagun Jagun’ Lead Nominations as AMAA Marks 20th Anniversary

The films The Weekend and Jagun Jagun have emerged as top contenders for the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), securing the highest number of nominations.

The Weekend leads with 16 nominations, while the historical thriller Jagun Jagun follows with seven.

Both films received nods in key categories such as Production Design, Costume Design, Make-Up, Visual Effects, and Best Nigerian Film.

The nominations were unveiled during a ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, attended by the Africa Film Academy jury, board members, and key industry figures.

The 20th edition of AMAA, themed “Celebrating African Creativity,” is set to take place in partnership with Lagos State. Other notable nominees include Femi Adebayo (Jagun Jagun) and Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey (The Weekend) for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and Uzoamaka Aniunoh (The Weekend) and Girley Jazama (Under the Hanging Tree) for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
