Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has confirmed the killing of nine operatives from the state’s Community Protection Guards (CPG) during an ambush by bandits in Tsafe Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Sulaiman Idris, the governor described the incident as a barbaric attack. The bandits reportedly ambushed the CPG personnel at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Tsafe town.
“The governor condemned the attack as a cowardly act by bandits on the run due to intensified military operations across the state,” the statement said.
Gov. Lawal expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the brave guards, commending their courage and the ongoing efforts of security forces to protect lives and property. “I extend my deepest condolences to the families of our fallen heroes. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” he stated.
The governor also assured the public that the state’s troops would continue their offensive against the bandits, reaffirming his commitment to support the families of the slain guards and those injured in the attack.
