The Lagos State Government has called on youths in the state to consider joining the military, expressing concern over the low enrollment of indigenous youths.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, made the appeal on Wednesday during a quarterly meeting with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ikeja.

Salu-Hundeyin emphasized that national security is a collective responsibility and that serving in the military is a vital contribution to both the state and the nation.

She highlighted that Lagos has been underrepresented in recent military recruitment, with few youths from the state applying for available positions.

“The Federal Government has allocated 150 recruitment slots per state, but we’ve found that Lagos is being short-changed due to low participation from our youth,” Salu-Hundeyin stated.

She urged young people to seize the opportunity, stressing that the military is open to all and vital to the country’s security.

She expressed hope that Lagos youths would take more interest in military service moving forward, ensuring that the state is fully represented in the defense sector.
