Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has called on Nigerians to back the development of sports within the country and across Africa. Speaking at a press briefing on October 10, 2024, in Abuja, General Musa highlighted the significance of the upcoming African Military Games and the role of sports in promoting unity and stability.

The African Military Games, set to be held from November 18 to 30, 2024, will bring together military personnel from 42 African nations. The event, which is being hosted in Abuja after a 19-year delay due to security concerns, will foster cooperation and cultural exchange among participating nations. General Musa credited President Bola Tinubu and key government officials for their unwavering support.

FCT Minister Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike commended the Defence Chief’s initiative, emphasizing the military’s contributions beyond security efforts. He noted that the event would strengthen diplomatic ties among African forces while showcasing Nigeria’s sporting capabilities.

As Nigeria prepares to host the games, General Musa’s call to action highlights the importance of national and continental support for sports development, which he believes will have long-term benefits for the country and the region.
