Zelensky: North Korean Troops, Weapons Bolstering Russia’s War in Ukraine

2 4

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday that North Korea has sent both soldiers and weapons to assist Russia in its ongoing war against Ukraine.

“We are witnessing an increasing alliance between Russia and regimes like North Korea,” Zelensky stated during his evening video address. “This is no longer just about transferring weapons; it’s now about sending North Korean personnel to support the occupying forces.”

Although there has been no independent confirmation of North Korean troops fighting alongside Russian forces, recent reports indicate the presence of North Korean soldiers in eastern Ukraine. However, it remains unclear whether soldiers killed in action were all part of the regular Russian military.

The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that thousands of North Korean soldiers had recently arrived in Russia and are being prepared for deployment to Ukraine. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been supplying Russia with weapons and ammunition since the conflict began, according to South Korean intelligence, including artillery shells and short-range missiles.

Zelensky plans to address this development with Ukraine’s Western allies, as the Russian invasion, which began in February 2022, continues to devastate the region.
