President Bola Tinubu has lauded Nigerian women for their pivotal role in driving national development, recognizing them as agents of positive change.
Speaking through Mr. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), at the Empower-Her Nigeria programme in Abuja on Tuesday, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering women and promoting gender equality.
“As the President of Nigeria, I remain dedicated to advancing women’s empowerment and achieving gender equality across our nation,” Tinubu said.
He highlighted the significant contributions of women in healthcare, justice, and community building, acknowledging their role as the backbone of society. Tinubu also outlined strategies to address the barriers women face, including limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
He stressed the importance of investing in agricultural training, land access, and financial services for women farmers to boost productivity and enhance Nigeria’s food security. Tinubu further called for concerted efforts to eliminate Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and close the health and education gaps impacting women and girls.
Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, revealed that funds raised during the event would support the establishment of mobile courts to fast-track GBV cases, ensuring swift justice for victims.
Philanthropist Chief Arthur Eze donated N100 million to the initiative, aimed at easing the hardships faced by vulnerable women. Other notable contributions came from prominent personalities, business leaders, and organizations, with the event also marking the inauguration of integrity ambassadors.
