Nigerian startup Egoras has launched the sale of subsidised locally produced Ella Parboiled Rice at N45,000 per 50kg bag, aiming to ease the burden of rising food prices on households.

Egoras CEO Harry Ugoji announced the initiative in Lagos, stating it targets Nigerians struggling with the high cost of living. Over 1,000 bags have already been distributed in Abuja, with expansion to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and plans to begin sales in Lagos.

“The current economic situation has pushed many families into financial hardship. Offering this rice at less than half its market price is our way of supporting those in need,” said Ugoji. He added that to prevent exploitation by resellers, Egoras has implemented a one-bag-per-customer policy.

Purchases are made through Egoras’ Telegram mini app, Egomartbot, for seamless transactions. The initiative, which began on October 12, is part of the company’s broader social impact strategy to support families amid soaring food prices.
