The Vice President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Christopher Amkpila, has urged corporate organizations and individuals to support the growth and development of wrestling across Nigeria.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, Amkpila highlighted that funding challenges impact sports worldwide, making corporate sponsorship vital to nurturing local talent and promoting wrestling’s growth in Nigeria.
“We have many philanthropists in Nigeria who are eager to support sports development initiatives,” Amkpila stated. “The Wrestling Federation remains open to partnerships with corporate bodies and philanthropists willing to contribute to wrestling’s development nationwide.”
He also praised the Comptroller General of Customs for sponsoring the current military and paramilitary wrestling championship, which he believes will strengthen relationships among the country’s military and paramilitary agencies.
“This championship fosters unity and collaboration across government agencies and provides an opportunity to discover and nurture new wrestling talents for future international competitions,” Amkpila added.
The event, known as the “National Wrestling Championship ABUJA 2024,” marks the first military and paramilitary wrestling championship in Nigeria. Organized by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation in partnership with the Chief of Defence Staff and the Nigeria Customs Service, the event highlights a strong collaborative effort to elevate wrestling in the country.
