An 80-year-old woman, Mariam Salako, tragically lost her life in a fire that engulfed a residential building early Saturday at 28 Ifelodun Ago Ka, Abeokuta.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that emergency services responded promptly but were unable to save Salako.
The fire broke out around 1:00 a.m., with the Ogun State Fire Service and police officers arriving swiftly following a distress call.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, reported that while the cause of the fire is still under investigation, community members managed to rescue a man known as Baba Ali, who was asleep and trapped inside.
Salako’s body has been taken to the morgue, and authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the blaze.
