Suspended Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has filed a N30 billion defamation lawsuit against Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), following his social media announcement of her suspension.
Abubakar’s suspension was reportedly due to alleged defamatory comments against the Nollywood industry.
However, the actress, through her legal counsel P.D. Pius & Associates, claims she was never contacted or given a chance to respond before the suspension was publicized.
In a letter dated October 20, 2024, her attorneys accused Rollas of intentionally damaging her reputation during a sensitive period, as she continues to recover from long-standing health challenges.
They argue that his actions have caused her emotional distress and harmed her public image.
The letter demands the immediate removal of the suspension announcement from Rollas’ Instagram page, a public apology, and N30 billion in damages for reputational harm.
The letter further warns that if these demands are not met within seven days, Abubakar intends to pursue full legal action.
