The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze and sunshine across Nigeria from Saturday to Monday, with varying weather conditions in different regions.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Friday, the northern region will experience slight dust haze on Saturday, while the North-Central region will see mild dust haze throughout the forecast period. In the southern region, sunny skies with occasional clouds are expected, along with morning mists in parts of Lagos and Ogun states. Isolated thunderstorms and light rains are anticipated in the afternoons and evenings over Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.
On Sunday, the northern region will continue to experience slight dust haze, and the North-Central region will also see mild dust haze. Thunderstorms and light rains are expected to affect parts of Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states in the afternoon and evening.
By Monday, NiMet predicts moderate dust haze in the northern region with reduced visibility of 1 to 3 kilometers and possible localized visibility of less than 1,000 meters. The North-Central region will remain under slight dust haze, while the southern region will continue to have sunny skies with clouds throughout the day.
NiMet cautioned the public about the suspended dust particles, advising those with respiratory conditions, such as asthma, to take necessary precautions. The agency also warned of strong winds accompanying thunderstorms and urged safety measures.
Airline operators are advised to consult NiMet for specific airport weather reports, and residents are encouraged to stay informed through regular weather updates.
