Google Chooses Five Nigerian Startups for Accelerator Programme
Google has unveiled the 8th cohort of its Accelerator Africa programme, featuring ten innovative startups from Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa.
The selected Nigerian startups include CDIAL AI, Earthbond, MyAIFactchecker, NextCounsel, and Rana Energy. Other participants are Fixxr from South Africa, Lifesten Health from Rwanda, and Nakili, Nobuk Africa, and Triply from Kenya.
In a statement on Tuesday, Google highlighted the exceptional talent and creativity within the African tech ecosystem, noting that the startups were chosen from nearly 1,000 applications. “Startups play a pivotal role in driving economic development and technological innovation in Africa,” the statement read.
Despite a slowdown in investment flows, the resilience of African entrepreneurs remains strong. Since 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa programme has supported 106 startups from 17 African countries, raising over $263 million and creating more than 2,800 jobs.
Folarin Aiyegbusi, head of startups programmes for Google in Africa, emphasized the importance of advanced technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, in addressing Africa’s challenges. He reiterated Google’s commitment to supporting the founders with resources and mentorship to help them scale their solutions.
From July 29 to September 20, 2024, the ten startups will participate in a structured programme designed to support their growth. They will receive guidance from Google mentors and seasoned entrepreneurs, as well as engage in technical workshops to refine their products, hone their business strategies, and strengthen their leadership skills.
