The National Association of Seadogs (NAS), a human rights and social justice organization, provided free meals to approximately 450 vulnerable children in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State on Saturday

The initiative, part of the association’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, was organized by the Hybrid Deck (Edo North Chapter) in collaboration with the Atlantis Deck (Atlanta Georgia Chapter, USA). The event, titled “Feeding of 450 Street Kids a Day,” reflects NAS’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Nigeria.

Founded in 1952 by Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka and six others, NAS, also known as the Pyrates Confraternity, has consistently advocated for social justice and human rights.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Christopher Ikponwonsa, Capoon of the Hybrid Deck, Edo North Chapter, shared the purpose behind the initiative: “We are offering the children breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The feeding of the kids and other less privileged persons in society is to show that NAS as an organization cares for them,” he said.

Ikponwonsa emphasized the importance of uplifting those in need, urging the public to offer support to vulnerable individuals.

Dr. Idris Haruna, the Project Officer of NAS Hybrid Deck, explained that the free feeding program was designed to ease the hardship caused by economic reforms in the country.

“This is in response to the hunger and acute food shortage. As a humanitarian body, Hybrid Deck, in partnership with Atlantis Deck, initiated this free food program to mitigate the scorching and pervasive hunger in the land,” Haruna stated.

The event was a moment of joy for many of the children, who expressed their gratitude with prayers for the organization’s continued success in its charitable work.

NAS’s initiative is a part of their broader mission to fight hunger and alleviate poverty across Nigeria, showcasing their unwavering commitment to social justice and humanitarian service.
