OXFAM an NGO in collaboration with Taraba State Government has build the capacity of State and Local Government budget and finance officials and Civil Society Organizations, CSOs on civic engagement aimed to promote good governance in the state.
The capacity building workshop organized under the Strengthen Civic Engagement Platforms and Systems for Improved Services (SCEPSIS) project in the state.
Mr Samuel Lashom, SCEPSIS’s Project Officer said, project aims to strengthen civic engagement platforms and systems, ultimately leading to improved service delivery.
According to him, the workshop is crucial for effective budget implementation, highlighting the need for civic engagement to ensure good governance for the target clientele.
Daniwl Abah, project coordinator, stressed that the workshop’s objective is to build the capacity of state, local government, and civil society organization (CSO) officials on International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
“Enhance the capacity of state and local government budget and planning officers, as well as CSOs, on budget preparation.
“Improve consistency and comparability, align state and local government financial and accounting systems with best practices through IPSAS.
“Enhance internal control to provide comprehensive information on costs to support results-based implementation of the local government plan”, he said.
He said that the workshop also aimed to build capacity of participants on international public standard accounting.
Dr Sani Adamu Nidiya, Chief Consultant and resource person, stresses the significance of the training to the state, LG and CSOS as it would lead to sustainable effective and efficient implementation of Budgetary process and impactful planning for meaningful development respectfully.
Cross section of the participants described the workshop as timely as it would go a long way to bridge the existing knowledge in governance.
They commended the effort of Oxfam in building capacities of individual and institution in line with international public accounting system and assured to apply the knowledge acquired in to practice.
The workshop received goodwill messages from various stakeholders, includes: Amina Ayuba, Deputy Director of the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Danasebe Ajiduku Ahmadu, Director of Budget, Wukari Local Government Area.
