Thirteen people have tragically lost their lives in two separate road accidents in the Free State within the past 24 hours.
The first crash occurred in the early hours of Sunday on the N1 south of Koppies towards Kroonstad. A minibus collided with a truck, claiming the lives of 10 people. Two survivors, including one passenger from the minibus and the truck driver, were rescued.
Emergency teams are still at the scene, working to recover bodies from the wreckage. The affected section of the road remains closed.
In a second incident on Saturday night, a collision between two bakkies on the R30 near Allanridge and Odendaalsrus resulted in the deaths of three people, including a nine-year-old child.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations, particularly during the busy holiday season. Investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
