NDLEA arrests 415 suspects, seizes 1.2 tonnes of Illicit drugs in Bauchi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Bauchi State Command has made significant strides in the fight against illicit drug abuse and trafficking.

The Commander of Narcotics, Ali Aminu, disclosed this in a press statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Bauchi

He said the agency has arrested 415 suspects and seized 1.2 tonnes of various drugs between January and December 2024.

The seized drugs include, cannabis sativa (popularly known as wee-wee), diazepam,exol-5,pentazocine,methamphetamine,rohypnol and tramadol.

Aminu stated that 70 cases were charged to court, with 84 suspects prosecuted and 18 pending cases still before the Federal High Court in Bauchi.

In addition to enforcement efforts, the NDLEA has also focused on rehabilitation. Aminu reported that 137 drug users have been counseled and rehabilitated, mostly through brief interventions in NDLEA custody in Bauchi.

The Commander warned the public to desist from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, emphasizing that anyone arrested with hard drugs would be prosecuted.

He praised the Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), for repositioning the agency and bringing new zeal to the personnel.

Aminu also commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his interest and logistical support in eradicating illicit drug abuse and trafficking.

The NDLEA’s efforts in Bauchi State are part of a broader national campaign to combat illicit drug abuse and trafficking.

The agency has been working tirelessly to disrupt the supply chain of illicit drugs, arrest and prosecute traffickers, and provide support and rehabilitation to those affected by drug abuse.
