Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a bottom-up approach in addressing security challenges while strengthening the ongoing peace process in the state.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. James Kanyip, disclosed this during a tour to assess the security situation in Giwa and Igabi Local Government Areas. The tour aimed to engage directly with communities affected by insecurity and gather first-hand insights into their experiences.

Dr. Kanyip explained that the administration’s strategy recognizes the unique security challenges faced by each local government, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach. “I feel that I should not be an armchair commissioner who just waits for reports,” Kanyip said.

He emphasized that the government’s initiative brings together various stakeholders, including local government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and women’s organizations. “Kaduna State Government recognizes the importance and role of local leaders and other stakeholders in building and sustaining peace. Through these interactions, we will gather valuable information that will help us in tackling the challenges we are facing,” he added.

The commissioner noted that the insights gathered from these engagements would aid security agencies in crafting effective localized responses. “This initiative represents a significant shift in the state’s security management approach, prioritizing direct community engagement and localized solutions over centralized decision-making,” he remarked.

Kanyip reiterated that security is a collective responsibility, with parents, women, youths, traditional rulers, and local authorities all playing vital roles in ensuring peace and stability.

The Kaduna State Government’s community-focused approach underscores its commitment to fostering long-term peace and security through inclusive and practical solutions tailored to the needs of its citizens.
