The death toll from wildfires raging across the Los Angeles area has risen to 25, with authorities announcing the arrests of three suspects accused of arson.

Seventeen deaths have been linked to the Eaton Fire near Pasadena, while the remaining eight fatalities are tied to the Palisades Fire in the Pacific Palisades district, according to the city’s medical examiner.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Steve Embrich disclosed that 14 people had been arrested in connection with the Palisades Fire. These include three individuals detained on suspicion of arson outside the fire zone on Sunday and Monday.

The other arrests involve curfew violations, impersonation of firefighters and police officers, vandalism, and burglary. “Looting is not just a crime against property; it erodes any sense of security for evacuated residents and will not be tolerated,” Embrich said.

Authorities also reported that 13 people remain missing in connection with the Palisades Fire, though they are not presumed dead.

Efforts to contain the wildfires are ongoing. The Palisades Fire, which has scorched nearly 96 square kilometers over the past week, is 14% contained, with firefighters noting minimal spread in recent hours. The Eaton Fire is 33% under control.

However, officials warned of continued danger as strong winds and high temperatures persist. A red flag warning remains in effect, with winds expected to subside only by Thursday when temperatures are forecast to cool.

The community remains on high alert as fire crews work tirelessly to prevent further loss of life and property.
