The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has stated that the Federal Government does not require the endorsement of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for its policies, which he says are improving the lives of Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the minister acknowledged the emir’s right, like every Nigerian, to express opinions on governance, whether as commendation or criticism. However, Idris expressed concern over the emir’s recent remarks.

“We find it amusing that a leader, more so one from an institution that ennobles forthrightness, fairness, and justice, would publicly admit to withholding the truth due to personal interests hinged on imaginary antagonism,” Idris said.

The minister emphasized that Nigeria is at a critical juncture requiring bold and decisive measures to address longstanding economic challenges. He noted that the Tinubu administration has implemented transformative reforms to secure the nation’s long-term stability and growth, echoing principles Sanusi has consistently supported.

“These reforms, though painful in the short term, are delivering measurable progress. The unification of exchange rates has boosted investor confidence, increased foreign reserves, and strengthened Nigeria’s resilience to external economic shocks,” Idris said.

He also highlighted the removal of fuel subsidies as a crucial decision, freeing resources for investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

Idris expressed disappointment that reforms previously advocated by Sanusi and other global experts are now being subtly criticized due to a perceived shift in loyalty.

“Sanusi has a unique responsibility to contribute constructively rather than undermine reforms aimed at collective progress,” Idris said.

The minister urged the emir and other stakeholders to prioritize unity and collaboration for the greater good of Nigerians.

“This is a critical time for our country. What we need is collaboration, not unnecessary distractions. President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains resolute in leading Nigeria toward economic inclusivity, sustainability, and shared prosperity,” he added.

Idris reiterated the administration’s openness to constructive dialogue with all well-meaning stakeholders while emphasizing its unwavering commitment to putting the interests of Nigerians first.
