Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha, marked its Centenary Anniversary on Saturday, January 25, 2025, with a grand thanksgiving service at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha.

The event brought together students, old boys, staff, and management of the historic institution to express their gratitude to God for reaching this remarkable milestone.

The School Proprietor and Bishop of the Niger, Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo, who presided over the service, expressed profound appreciation to God and the Church Missionary Society (CMS) for founding the school a century ago. He described DMGS as the first high school institution east of the Niger, celebrating its significant contributions to national and global development over the past 100 years.

Rt. Rev. Nwokolo praised the school’s motto, “Lux Fiat” (Let there be light), which he said aptly reflects DMGS’s legacy of academic, moral, and social excellence. He urged the school community to remain steadfast in upholding the vision and values of the founding fathers.

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, through his Chief of Staff, Chief Ernest Ezeajughi, congratulated DMGS on its centenary celebration. He commended the school for its profound impact on Nigeria and the global community, emphasising its role as a beacon of education and character building.

After the thanksgiving service, a solemn ceremony was held at the school, where wreaths were laid to honour departed staff and students.
