Trump Orders Airstrikes on ISIS in Somalia, Targets Militants
U.S. President Donald Trump has authorized military airstrikes targeting Islamic State (ISIS) operatives in Somalia, marking one of his administration’s first major military actions.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said, “These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies.” He added that the strikes successfully eliminated terrorists without causing civilian casualties.
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud confirmed the strikes, stating that his government was informed in advance and expressing appreciation for U.S. support in combating terrorism.
The airstrikes, conducted in the Golis Mountains of northeastern Somalia, reportedly targeted key ISIS figures. While Trump did not disclose specific names, he issued a strong warning to extremist groups: “The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that ‘WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!’”
Newly appointed U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that initial assessments indicate multiple ISIS operatives were killed, with no civilian casualties reported.
ISIS, which gained international notoriety in the 2010s in Syria and Iraq, has since expanded its presence in Africa, with Somalia being one of its key operational hubs.
The latest U.S. military action underscores ongoing efforts to combat terrorist threats in the region.
