Authorities in Greece have issued a precautionary advisory following increased seismic activity near Santorini, with over 130 earthquakes detected since January 28, 2025.

According to seismologists, the tremors, measuring up to magnitude 3.0, have occurred approximately 25 km northeast of the island. The latest wave of quakes on February 2 also affected other Cyclades islands, including Amorgos, which experienced at least six tremors.

Despite the surge in seismic activity, Santorini Mayor Nikos Zorzos reassured the public, stating there is “no significant cause for alarm.” However, authorities have implemented precautionary measures, including school closures, restrictions on two small ports, and advisories against indoor gatherings.

Experts confirm that the recent earthquakes are tectonic rather than volcanic in origin. While officials continue to monitor the situation closely, residents and visitors are urged to remain cautious and adhere to safety guidelines.
