Kaduna Police Arrest 39 Amid Protests, Recover Russian Flags

The Kaduna State Police Command has detained 39 individuals suspected of exploiting the ‘end bad governance’ protests, including a tailor producing Russian flags.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests on Monday, stating that the suspects were involved in acts of vandalism and public disorder. “The command has successfully detained 39 suspects who exploited the protests,” Hassan said.

These individuals were observed displaying Russian and Chinese flags while mobilizing and vandalizing both private and public properties. Damaged items included a Hilux vehicle belonging to KADVS, a Toyota Yaris owned by a journalist, and the KASTLEA office in Zone 6, Zaria, which was set on fire.

The police, alongside other security agencies, intervened to restore order. The suspects resisted using stones, catapults, and other weapons, but the situation was eventually brought under control with minimal use of tear gas.

Among those arrested was a tailor accused of sewing foreign flags for the group. The police recovered 38 Russian flags, one Chinese flag, two catapults with a bag of stones, and various vandalized items.

State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Audu Dabigi, commended his officers for their professional conduct and warned residents to adhere to the imposed curfew. He assured that violators would face arrest and prosecution.

“The curfew is in place to protect lives and property, and ensure the swift restoration of peace in Kaduna State,” Hassan added, urging citizens to cooperate with the police and other security agencies during this critical period.
