The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended actress Halima Abubakar over allegations of professional misconduct, following a two-year investigation into her activities.
In a statement released on Friday, the Guild revealed that Abubakar was found guilty of spreading false information about her colleagues and prominent figures, including accusations of extramarital affairs with high-profile individuals. The AGN stated that Abubakar’s actions amounted to slander against Nollywood and its members.
The suspension comes after a thorough investigation conducted by the Special Secret Investigation Panel, which was tasked with examining information circulated by certain blogs since 2022. According to the AGN, Abubakar was identified as the source of these defamatory claims.
The Guild also noted that other female members are under investigation, particularly in connection with the recent release of names linked to Senate President Godswill Akpabio. These individuals remain on the Guild’s watch list as the secret panel continues its inquiries.
Halima Abubakar’s suspension is indefinite, pending further review by the AGN’s National Disciplinary Committee. She has been barred from participating in any Guild activities or film projects until a final decision is made.
