Air India to Pay ₹1 Crore Compensation per Victim, Tata Group Pledges Support
Air India has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic crash of its Ahmedabad-to-London Gatwick flight, which killed more than 270 people. In a statement released on Saturday, the airline said, “All of us at Air India are deeply saddened by this loss. We mourn with the families, loved ones, and everyone affected.”
Earlier on Thursday, Tata Group — the parent company of Air India — announced a compensation package of ₹1 crore for the families of each deceased passenger. The group also committed to covering medical expenses for survivors and funding the construction of a new hostel at B J Medical College.
“Tata Group will provide ₹1 crore to the families of each person who lost their life in this tragedy,” said N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons. “We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support. Additionally, we will assist with the construction of the B J Medical College hostel.”
The support package comes in the wake of the devastating crash, which occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on Thursday, killing 241 passengers and crew, and at least 29 people on the ground. The move has been widely welcomed as a compassionate response to one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters in recent years.
