Aisha Yesufu Criticizes National Assembly Over Bobrisky Inquiry Amid Nigeria’s Challenges

Activist Aisha Yesufu has condemned the National Assembly for prioritizing an investigation into bribery allegations involving cross-dresser Bobrisky, calling it a distraction from more pressing national issues.

In September, social critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) released an audio conversation allegedly implicating Bobrisky in bribery. The recording suggested that Bobrisky paid N15 million to the EFCC to have money laundering charges dropped, and that his “godfather” arranged for him to serve a six-month jail term in a private apartment. In response, the House of Representatives launched a panel of inquiry to investigate the claims.

In a video posted on October 21, Yesufu expressed frustration, questioning why lawmakers were focused on this issue while Nigeria is facing severe economic hardship. She described the investigation as a “minor” matter and an “absolute disgrace,” criticizing the National Assembly for neglecting more critical issues affecting the country.

Yesufu argued that agencies like the EFCC and Police should handle the case, rather than involving lawmakers. She emphasized that the National Assembly has more vital responsibilities, including lawmaking, oversight functions, and holding the executive accountable, yet it is wasting time on trivial matters.

Addressing Bobrisky directly, Yesufu questioned his attempt to flee the country after being intercepted by Nigeria Immigration Officers at the Seme border on October 20. She urged him to face the consequences of his actions, whether or not he was guilty of the allegations.
