Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, says his administration is determined to transform Akure into a befitting state capital through ongoing infrastructural projects.
The governor made this known on Thursday in Akure while flagging off the construction of 32 units of four-bedroom terraced residential buildings for members of the State Executive Council.
Aiyedatiwa explained that the project was initiated to address the long-standing challenge of inadequate government quarters for top officials.
He noted that only a few cabinet members had previously enjoyed accommodation within secured government housing facilities.
According to him, the urban renewal drive around the Alagbaka axis is only the beginning of wider plans to modernize Akure.
“This project is significant as it provides modern terraced buildings with amenities that ensure the safety and comfort of our cabinet members.
“Each unit is well-planned, combining efficiency of space with the security of a gated environment,” he said.
The governor also assured that work would be fast-tracked on major road projects in the city, including Ijoka Road and the Onyearugbulem-Shagari flyover, alongside other projects currently being planned.
He further disclosed that the new residential development comprises 28 houses arranged in five clusters of terrace blocks, in addition to four exclusive stand-alone homes.
Aiyedatiwa stressed that the initiative aligned with his administration’s developmental agenda, underscoring his commitment to the welfare of those driving government business.
He appealed for patience from other arms of government, assuring the legislature and judiciary that similar projects would be extended to them in due course.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, described the project as a bold step towards bridging the state’s infrastructure deficit, urging the contractor to deliver on schedule.
Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing, Biola Oladapo, hailed the project as a legacy initiative that would enhance unity, productivity, and the welfare of cabinet members.
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, also commended the effort, urging the governor to sustain the momentum of development in the state capital.
