Anambra Police Warn VeryDarkMan Against Inciting Unrest Over Planned Candlelight Procession
The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning to popular social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse—widely known as VeryDarkMan—over a planned candlelight procession in Awka, urging him to avoid actions or statements that could threaten public peace.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the event, which Otse had proposed in honour of the late Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, could incite public tension.
Otse had announced plans for the procession on social media, claiming it was intended to draw attention to the rising insecurity in Anambra State. Onyekere, a former Managing Director of Fish Magnet outlet, was recently abducted and murdered by suspected gunmen in Awka.
However, the Police said the family of the deceased has publicly distanced itself from any memorial event being organised in Onyekere’s name. “The family has requested privacy as they mourn and expressed full confidence in the authorities to investigate and bring those responsible to justice,” Ikenga said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, stressed that Anambra remains one of the most peaceful states in the region, thanks to the coordinated efforts of law enforcement and community stakeholders.
“No individual, no matter how influential, will be allowed to disrupt the peace and security currently enjoyed in the state,” the statement read.
The Command further cautioned social media users and public figures to avoid making inflammatory comments or spreading misinformation that could incite unrest.
“Anyone found attempting to undermine public peace—online or offline—will face the full weight of the law,” the police warned.
Residents were urged to go about their lawful activities without fear, as security agencies continue working to maintain peace and order across the state.
