The Anambra State Government has concluded plans to establish an Electricity Regulatory Commission aimed at accelerating industrialisation and economic growth across the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, during a press briefing on the outcome of the 10th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting held on Tuesday in Awka.

According to Mefor, the government is committed to swift implementation of the newly signed Anambra State Electricity Regulation Commission Act.

“There will be no delay in the plan to implement the recently assented Anambra State Electricity Regulation Commission Act,” he said.

As part of the implementation process, Mefor announced that the state will embark on a recruitment drive to hire subject-matter experts to manage the affairs of the new commission.

The commissioner also revealed that the Executive Council resolved to confiscate and seal off facilities used as “Holding Places for Child Beggars.”
“This is compliance with extant law, in accordance with the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025,” he stated.

He further announced that several people-centered and revenue-generating projects were approved to drive the state’s socio-economic development.

Among the key contracts awarded is the construction of a warehouse for pharmaceutical-grade kaolin at the Anambra State Kaolin Plant in Ukpor.
Mefor said, “The contractor, Strata Projects Ltd, will handle the project at a cost of ₦190,482,467.94, with a completion timeline of eight weeks from the date of mobilisation.”

Additionally, the government approved the supply and installation of a 750 KVA transformer at the same kaolin plant.
“The contractor is Zamlic Ventures Ltd, with a contract sum of ₦110,114,510.60, and a duration of eight weeks from mobilisation,” Mefor stated.

In another development, the state will procure and supply official uniforms and operational gear for the Ocha Brigade.
“The contract, worth ₦155,653,550.00, will be executed by Analiro Enterprises Ltd,” the commissioner said.

Mefor emphasized that the government is working on a long-term strategy to restore the moral and social fabric of Anambra society.
He said, “The government has explored how to completely restore Anambra society, reshape its moral and social structures, and establish the project as a lasting legacy.”

Crowning the council’s decisions, Mefor disclosed the approval of the transformation of the Anambra Government House into a Mini City, now christened “Light House Awka.”

He explained, “The decision was made in keeping with Anambra State’s slogan, ‘Light of the Nation.’”
