APC sweeps Ungogo, Kano Municipal House of Assembly by-elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won both the Ungogo and Kano Municipal State House of Assembly by-elections conducted on Saturday, consolidating its position in the Kano State legislature.
In Kano Municipal Constituency, APC candidate Aliyu Daneji secured victory with 7,484 votes. The Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Siraj, announced the results and declared Daneji duly elected.
Similarly, in Ungogo Constituency, APC’s Aminu Sa’ad emerged winner after polling 8,975 votes, with the constituency’s Returning Officer, Prof. Ali Abdullahi, formally returning him elected.
The Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amb. Abdu Zango, attributed the low voter turnout to factors such as the timing of the elections and limited participation by political parties.
According to newsmen, the by-elections were held to fill vacancies created by the sudden deaths of the lawmakers who previously represented the Ungogo and Kano Municipal constituencies.
