The Nigerian Army says its troops have dismantled several camps, hideouts and improvised explosive device (IED) factories belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing in parts of the South-East.

According to the army, the facilities were located within the Mother Valley general area spanning Imo State and Anambra State.

An army spokesperson, Jonah Ayeni, said the operations significantly degraded the operational capacity of the group.

“It is not a gainsaying that troops have dislodged several camps, hideouts and IED-making factories belonging to IPOB and its armed wing,” he said.

Ayeni added that following the loss of operational assets and strongholds, the group had allegedly resorted to propaganda, fake news and divisive narratives.

To promote transparency, he said the headquarters of Operation UDO KA had invited media organisations, civil society groups and other stakeholders to participate in a verification tour of the affected operational areas.

According to him, the inspection would allow independent observers to confirm the locations recovered during the operations and view seized IED-making materials without compromising operational security.

He reiterated that the Nigerian Army remained a professional, apolitical and multi-ethnic institution whose personnel serve across the country regardless of their state of origin.

Ayeni also urged Nigerians and social media users to verify information from official sources before sharing it, stressing the need to prioritise national unity over ethnic divisions.
