Super Falcons star striker Asisat Oshoala has firmly dismissed rumours that she has retired from international football, stating she remains committed to the national team.

Speaking to reporters in Morocco after Nigeria’s thrilling 3-2 win over the host nation in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the six-time African Player of the Year described the retirement claims as unfounded.

“I don’t know where that came from but agenda must agend. I get it, but I’m not bothered. I’m still here. I’m still playing. I’m still doing my job. That’s what I’m focused on,” Oshoala said.

The 30-year-old forward, who featured in Nigeria’s final 23-player squad for the tournament, contributed her experience and leadership throughout the competition, playing a vital role off the bench as the Super Falcons secured their record 12th WAFCON title.

Oshoala began her international journey in 2013 and rose to global prominence at the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup. She has since become the first African player to score in three consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cups and now boasts four WAFCON titles — in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024.

With her legacy firmly cemented in African football, Oshoala continues to inspire a new generation of players while leading by example on and off the pitch.
