Nigerian football icon Asisat Oshoala has made an immediate impact in Saudi Arabia, winning her first award since joining Al Hilal Women.

The 30-year-old Super Falcons striker was named the Saudi Women’s Premier League Player of the Month for September after a brilliant start to life in Riyadh.

Oshoala scored on her debut against Al Qadsiah and added a goal and an assist in each of her next two matches against Al Ahli and Neom SC, finishing the month with three goals and two assists in just three appearances.

Her performances have been pivotal to Al Hilal’s perfect start to the season, with the club winning all three of their opening matches and netting 10 goals. Only rivals Al Nassr, with 13 goals, have scored more.

Oshoala’s award capped a dominant month for Al Hilal, as Layla Ali scooped the Goalkeeper of the Month prize and Jose Herrera was named Coach of the Month.

The Nigerian star, already celebrated for her record-breaking career at Arsenal, Liverpool, Dalian, and Barcelona, has consistently blazed trails in women’s football. She was the first African woman to score in and win a UEFA Women’s Champions League final, the first to win Spain’s Pichichi Trophy, and the first African nominated for the Ballon d’Or Féminin.

Decorated both at club and national level, Oshoala has also helped Nigeria’s Super Falcons secure multiple Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles. Her arrival in Saudi Arabia is expected to be a decisive factor in Al Hilal’s push for league dominance this season.

Al Hilal will next face Al Ittihad at the Prince Faisal bin Fahad Stadium, where Oshoala will be aiming to extend her dazzling run.
